6 Common Botox Myths… Busted!

If you’ve ever thought about trying Botox but felt nervous because of something you heard from a friend (or saw on TikTok 😅), you’re not alone. There are so many myths floating around about Botox, and honestly, they stop a lot of people from experiencing how simple and natural it really can be.

At Monroe Lane Aesthetics, my goal is to make treatments feel approachable, honest, and pressure-free. So today, let’s set the record straight and bust some of the biggest Botox myths I hear all the time.

First, let me take a quick second to explain that Botox is a brand name of neurotoxin.  There are many brands of neurotoxins including Botox, Xeomin, Jeuveau, Dysport, Daxxify, and more!  Your provider will carry one or more of these brands and should provide education on which one will work best for you!

Now that you’re educated about that commonly misunderstood fact, let’s jump into these myths!

Myth 1: Botox will freeze my face 🥶

The truth: When Botox is done right, it doesn’t freeze anything.  It just softens the muscles that cause expression lines. You’ll still be able to smile, laugh, and raise your eyebrows… just with fewer wrinkles showing up when you do. The goal is to look refreshed, not “frozen.”

Myth 2: Botox is only for old people 👵➡️👩

Nope! Botox isn’t about age, it’s about prevention and personal choice. Women in their 20s and 30s often start with Botox for prevention to slow down the early signs of aging, while women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond use it to refresh and soften existing lines. There’s no “right” age.  It’s about what makes you feel confident.

Myth 3: Botox will instantly remove my wrinkles ⏱✨

I wish it worked that fast! In reality, Botox takes a few days to start working and about 2 weeks to see the full results. The best part is that it looks natural and improves gradually, so no one will know you had something done.  They’ll just notice that you look well rested and glowing.

Here’s something important to know: Botox works best on dynamic lines, which are the wrinkles that show up when you make an expression (like frowning or raising your brows). For static lines which are those deeper wrinkles that stay even when your face is at rest, Botox can help soften them, but it may take consistency over time, and sometimes a combination of treatments. Medical grade skincare, microneedling, or other collagen-stimulating treatments can work beautifully alongside Botox to get the best long-term results.

Myth 4: Botox hurts a lot 😬

Most clients are surprised by how quick and easy it is. The needles are tiny, and while you may feel a little pinch, it’s over in seconds. I also use techniques to make the experience as comfortable as possible.  Many people say it’s easier than getting their eyebrows waxed.

Myth 5: Once you start Botox, you can’t stop 🚫

Not true. Botox simply relaxes the muscles for about 3–4 months. If you decide not to keep up with it, your face doesn’t “get worse.” You’ll just return to your natural baseline over time.

Myth 6: Botox and filler are the same thing 💉 vs 💋

This one causes a lot of confusion! Botox and fillers are different tools that work in different ways. Botox relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles, while filler adds volume to areas like cheeks or lips. Sometimes they’re used together for the best results, but they are not interchangeable.

The Bottom Line 💕

Botox is one of the most popular and effective treatments for softening lines and keeping your skin looking youthful, but it should always be done with your goals in mind. At Monroe Lane Aesthetics, you’ll never feel pressured or overdone. Just honest recommendations, a friendly space, and results that look like you, only more refreshed.
